The Vast Aquatic World on Earth

Hello everyone and Happy New Year! Initially, this post was titled Aquariums and Water Chemistry, however, as I began writing, I saw that for the majority of this post, I hardly talked about fish keeping, aquariums, and water chemistry. So, I’ve decided to turn “Aquariums and Water Chemistry” into a series. This first post will be an introduction to Earth’s water, which will lead to further discussion in later posts about how to create and maintain healthy environment for your fish :).

Update and Preview

Hello. Today’s post will discuss a quick update about the site and a preview of what’s to come for this month and next year potentially.

The goals for the blog this year are:

  • to increase discussion of STEMM topics
  • job hunting for a research specialist/scientist position
  • write one post/month
  • preparation for PhD programs

In the meantime, there will be a new post by the end of this month or early February that will be part of a series. The series title is “Aquariums and Water Chemistry” . I’m looking forward to writing it. In college, I wasn’t as interested in water chemistry as I am now even though I did like the topic; however, now that I’ve gotten into the hobby of fish-keeping, I saw the importance of water chemistry in maintaining an health ecosystem with balanced and stable parameters.

The next post will examine recent advances within the STEMM fields, why these advances are important, and the direction of modern research.

Stay Curious,

Aria

Huntington’s Disease & Worms…What?

Yup, you read that right. Huntington’s Disease and worms, specifically microscopic worms such as caenorhabditis elegans (c.elegans). In my first year of graduate school, I had to come up with a theoretical project on a neurodegenerative disease of my choice. I’d thought it would be cool if I posted parts of that paper, specifically the background information and the significance of the research. One of my favourite aspects of science (other than chemistry and physics) is neuroscience, and whenever I get the chance I enjoy researching topics within the field. I hope you guys find this, at least, slightly interesting. At the bottom, I’ve included the references listed. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, and I can try to send you the correct sources :).
